Reporter
About Me:
I am starting the newspapers first MOJO-roaming reporter program. I am starting slow, maybe a couple of hours a day. But the program should blossom as I get acquainted with more residents and communities. I will also utilize mutlimedia tools, such as docupens, recorders, video cameras and still cameras to help me engage readers with better stories and more presentation.

Mobile Harder Than I Thought

For a decade, I've been a journalist who relies on the phone, meetings, tips, the public and some pit bull instincts for my coverage. This year, the newspaper purchased a video camera, a laptop, and an internet card to do some mojo journalism. Since then, I have found it incredibly difficult to do it as a county government reporter. I don't think newspapers should ever stop covering meetings, because that's how we watch decision making of local officials. I work in a county where it is growing f… Continue

Hot Diggity Dog

It's Monday. I don't like Mondays, even if I had them off. I don't think I would even like Mondays if I lived in Paris where they get 1-hour lunches with naps, cheese and wine. OK, I've never been to Paris, so maybe that's not fair.

I have to say I am not a fan of how the Web site presents the mate… Continue

Roaming journalist

I spent a quarter of my day today trying to roam Spotsylvania County, Va, as a roaming journalist. I was promised a video camera, a still camera, and I already have my mobile laptop.

After 10 years in this industry, I've never enjoyed doing man on the streets, but this sort of forces you to approach people who you normally wouldn't approach unless you were writing a news story that directly affected them. Believe it or not, it's intimidating a bit. Do I walk up to every person I see an… Continue

I AM searching for a job. I graduate in May. I love feature stories mainly; profiles are are what I love best, but all sorts of beats are great. I'm looking for photojournalistic work inparticular, but I am open to all kinds, even public relations.

You know last night right after I posted that comment, I started laughing to myself because I saw how you began yours.

I'm interested to hear about what you're doing with the government beat. What kind of features have you worked on?
