About Me:
New at Maryland for the fall of 2008, I teach multimedia journalism for the web and mobile technology. I research emerging cognitive models of how users seek, select and comprehend news in multimedia environments. My current model explores the importance of personalization, involvement and contiguity with minimal cognitive "kick-outs" (elements that terminate your engagement in content). I am also interested in how non-experts from different populations attend to complex news about science, health and technology.
