Senior Editor, New Media

Computerworld, an award-winning Web site and magazine, seeks an experienced online editor to join our top-flight team of community editors in supporting blogs, user-generated content, podcasts and video. This senior editor role offers the opportunity to work both strategically and hands on to help us advance our community and multimedia content to the next level. We're seeking someone who has ideas and the ability to implement them.

The successful candidate will have magazine or newspaper editorial experience as well as passion for and direct experience with at least some of the following types of new media: blogs, video, podcasts, reader comments, forums, social networking, Twitter, or other Internet-based media.

This position is responsible for understanding and identifying topics and issues of interest to our advanced, technology-oriented readers; deciding what stories and projects will be most effective in engaging our audience; moderating community content; selecting content for special reports; and writing and editing engaging headlines and descriptions that entice our readers to try our content.

Minimum qualifications include fluency in basic html, familiarity with RSS, and the ability to write and edit copy. Writing and/or editing clips (or electronic links) preferred. Journalism experience, especially in the technology field, is a strong plus as is familiarity with and/or strong interest in technology, especially with regard to the enterprise IT space. This position requires a college degree, one to three years experience in publishing, and demonstrated experience in Internet new media. The job is located at Computerworld's headquarters in Framingham, Mass.


Associate Editor, New Media

Computerworld, an award-winning Web site and magazine, seeks a self-starting, Internet-savvy editor to join our top-flight team of community editors in supporting blogs, video, podcasts, reader comments, forums, social networking, Twitter, or other Internet-based media. Experience with at least some of those areas is required. This junior editor role is a hands-on position whose primary responsibilities include moderating comments and posts on blogs and forums; writing engaging headlines; selecting content of high interest to our readers; answering reader e-mail; sending e-mail newsletters; helping update our Web site; and contributing to special projects.

The successful candidate will have experience with and/or a strong interest in computer-oriented subject matter. Familiarity with enterprise IT topics is an important plus. Also desirable is some magazine or newspaper editorial experience.

Computerworld is a growing, fast-paced, ever-changing work environment that encourages creativity and requires an entrepreneurial, let's-try-it attitude. Keys to success include good communication skills, organizational abilities, and efficient team work on deadline. Skills you'll need to know or be ready to learn include proficiency with basic HTML, handling Web-based publishing software, and an excellent working knowledge of Internet protocols, such as the Web, RSS, e-mail, and instant messaging.
