Much was said at last night's No News Is Bad News town-hall style meeting in Seattle -- except good suggestions for new models.

I won't rehash all that was said. You can watch it here and read all the tweets about it using the #nnbn hastag on Twitter.

The one thing I did want to touch on were a couple of ideas about collaboration, something a few of us in Washington have been scratching at with a system of shared links using Publish2.

There's a lot of (justified) fear that some good, resource-heavy journalism, investigative journalism will be a casualty of the industry's plummeting profit margins.

At least briefly last night (or this is what I remember anyway), a question was thrown out: why can't existing newspapers and bloggers pool resources to create this journalism.

So, here's my little idea: http://newscollaboration.ning.com

I just threw it together this morning, and I'd love to hear suggestions for getting it started.

Thanks for the post. Informative video but I think you're right about the lack of good suggestions for a new model. And unfortunately that's exactly what we need.

Thanks for setting this up, Angela. I was afraid last night might devolve into a "print vs. Web" shout off and my fears were largely realized. Not to pat ourselves on the back too much, but stuff like this — ideas for bringing journalism up to speed with where it should be — is a much better use of time.

I think having this on WiredJ is a good start to "getting it started." I'll blog about it, we'll Twitter it and we'll see what happens. The hardest part will be to get some of the not-so-familiar-with-the-Web people up to speed on how to join a social network and stay active on it. Perhaps I'll work on that.
