I like to think I know what I'm doing with a video camera. But occasionally, things happen to remind me that knowledge and practical application sometimes don't mesh.

Today was an interesting day for the newsroom at VenturaCountyStar.com. There was a shooting at a local junior high school involving two students. Two reporters and a photographer were dispatched as soon as the call came in. One of the reporters took a video camera.



For the text story, both reporters called story details as they became available. Within 45 minutes of getting to the scene, I was out the door to do a quick exchange of video tapes and sd cards (for the photographer).… Continue

This site seems to have a pretty good mix of both seasoned online producers and beginners. I think I'll start things off by giving the beginners some simple advice for getting started with web video. In subsequent posts I'll tackle things like storytelling, shooting, equipment, editing tricks and whatever else comes to mind.
