Better video through self evaluation

I like to think I know what I'm doing with a video camera. But occasionally, things happen to remind me that knowledge and practical application sometimes don't mesh.



In the newsroom, I try to help reporters and photographers with their videos and offer simple tips "for next time." I'm usually jokingly critical when I see errors they've been taught to avoid. Tag-teaming a big story

Today was an interesting day for the newsroom at VenturaCountyStar.com. There was a shooting at a local junior high school involving two students. Two reporters and a photographer were dispatched as soon as the call came in. One of the reporters took a video camera.

Getting started with web video

This site seems to have a pretty good mix of both seasoned online producers and beginners. I think I'll start things off by giving the beginners some simple advice for getting started with web video.
