Previously, I was a reporter, editor, Web content developer (conceptual, not programming) and citizen-journalism coordinator during 22 years with the News & Record in Greensboro. Building a community

Is there anyone out there who covers health and medicine and has made any inroads into building an online community of any sort, tied to the beat? If so, I'd love to hear from you and pick your brain.

Quality audio on the cheap

I'm pondering buying an audio recorder of my own since the paper doesn't have nearly enough to go around. Cost is a significant issue. Can anyone recommend something that's cheap but provides quality audio? If it matters, we do most of our audio editing in Audacity.
