iMovie '09 tutorials?

Looking for a good iMovie '09 tutorial for my Web class this spring. "The Missing Manual" is quite good, but more than my students need. Apple's online tutorials seem inadequate, not to mention hyperbolic.

Blogging the StateHouse: A Visit with CTNewsJunkie.com

"Hey Dan -- Our pleasure! Chalk it up to our "big tent" attitude I guess -- all file formats are welcome! (Or the Ning video codec just happens to mash well with your output, but I'm glad about it, either way.)"

Student videoblogging at Northeastern University

I just finished watching videos made by my students in Reinventing the News. All of them have good points; some are quite strong from beginning to end.

A few technical notes:

1. The videos were shot with low-end digital cameras, several of which created file compatibility problems. Two students who used Flip cameras had to edit their work on their Windows laptops using Windows Movie Maker, as… Continue

Re-editing the agenda with NewsTrust

For the past week students in my Web journalism class have been immersing themselves in NewsTrust, a social- networking site that bills itself as "Your guide to good journalism."

Last Wednesday Rory O'Connor, NewsTrust's editorial director, led us in a presentation and workshop, highlights of which you can see in the embedded video below. Since then, we've… Continue

The plight of the wired student journalist

Lauren Dillard, a student at Oregon State University, has written a thought-provoking response to my post on the multimedia journalist. She writes:

Welcome!

And a hearty welcome to all your students.

I hope at least a few of them stick around and browse the groups and member list to find a mentor/expert/rockstar to pin down with some practical questions.

You'll certainly hear a Wired Journalists plug in my Reinventing the News class. I'm probably going to do that the next time we meet, as well as add it to our class Web site.

Hi Dan,
One of your students recently mentioned me on her blog. And I was thrilled to find out that blogging was required in your course!
