What's the best small handheld video camera for guerrilla shooting on assignment, something easy to carry, easy to use, that produces high quality video -- at least to the extent that quality is up to the camera.... Does anyone have a recommendation?
For a small camera this one has pretty good qulity-it's HD up to 720p... the Kodak Zi6 HD camera small upright handheld camera (Kind of like the Flip-only better quality than that). Easy to carry, cause it's kind of built like a point and shoot camera as opposed to a traditional camera-good for on the street sort of shooting.
Other than that I don't have any specific suggestions- (we use an old sony DV camcorder at our newsroom), but if you look up camcorders at Gizmodo.com there are some pretty excellent reviews.
the canon FS100 is what we use at the Toledo Blade newspaper. check out toledoblade.com and most of the videos are done using this handheld video camera. you can connect a wireless mic to it for excellent sound, though you can't listen with head phones at the same time. it's also affordable. it's shutter speed priority and has a custom white balance function. good little camera...
