I'm currently a staff writer at The Towerlight of Towson University and a blogger on Towson's Starving Journalist. I'm graduating from Towson next week and I have an unpaid internship coming up next month that I'm very excited for because of the experience I'm looking forward to. I'm currently looking for a paid job starting in August, preferably in the Baltimore, Md. area or somewhere close by. With the Towerlight, I wrote articles for the Arts and Life section about every week this past academic year and I specialize in feature stories, particularly human interest and entertainment. Please contact me by visiting my page here. Thanks!

I'm the Columns Editor at an environmental news site, and we're looking for talented columnists to write about environmental topics. Although unpaid, each columnist will garner significant exposure and name recognition, as columns will be featured prominently on the main news page. No environmental expertise necessary, although engaging writing and sharp analytical capabilities are a must. If you do not have firsthand environmental experience, you should be willing to do a certain amount of research to grow into your role as an expert in the field. Think of a pitch: health and the environment, green culture around the world, anything engaging. Please send a cover letter/pitch + writing samples to allison@greenandsave.com. Thanks!

Something we're seeing at TrendHunter.com is that as jobs in journalism are growing more scarce, the requirements for positions that are available are becoming more stringent. As the world's largest trend spotting site, a portfolio full of work at Trend Hunter Magazine can be just what an applicant needs to stand out from the pack.

I'm an editor at Trend Hunter and would love to help anyone interested in building a portfolio with us. Since I joined last August, I've had over 1,400 articles published to our community of 6-8 million monthly views. Write to me at marissa@trendhunter.com for more information.

Hi everyone,

I'm working for a new global video news website, called "The VJ Movement". We're not online yet, but we're planning to launch early next year.

For our website, we are looking for freelance video journalists from around the gobe to start producing stories for us. Right now, we're working on stories in for example Sudan, Chad, China, Sweden, South Africa, Indonesia and Egypt, but if you live in another country, you are also welcome to reply. A story in your country can pop up soon!

If you're interested, email me on sbroersma@vjmovement.com.

We're looking for an online producer for our newsroom. Here's the job posting:

Online producer:
This is your chance to work for North Dakota’s No. 1 Web site. The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead is looking for a hard-working, Web-savvy individual to join its newsroom as an online producer.

The person who takes this job must be innovative and willing to work in a fast-paced newsroom. We’re looking for someone who is creative and who can collaborate with print and with our in-house news radio partners; someone who is self-sufficient and team-oriented, depending on what the situation calls for. Bottom line: We want someone who can help take our newsroom and our Web site to the next level.

Responsibilities of this position include the packaging of news, photos, graphics, and other elements for our Web site each day, as well as helping to develop various multimedia pieces for the Web. This person also will play a key role in helping create and launch new niche Web sites. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, Flash, Photoshop, and some kind of video and audio editing software. Knowledge of journalism and AP style is a plus.

Fargo-Moorhead is a thriving college metro area on the border of North Dakota and Minnesota. The Forum is an award-winning, family owned newspaper with an average daily print circulation of 50,000. Our Web site, www.inforum.com, boasts 7 million page views per month. To apply, please send a letter, resume and a link to your work or a sample from your portfolio to Forum deputy editor Mary Jo Hotzler at 101 5th St. N., Fargo, N.D., 58107. Or e-mail me at mhotzler@forumcomm.com.

A fellow reporter at my office, which houses a number of weekly papers, suggested that I cold call publications in while researching my career advancement. The continued disappointment and unreliability of posts at journalismjobs.com and other sites are forcing reporters and editors to embark on more creative job searches. Does anybody have any tips on cold calling newspapers and other publications for jobs? Does anybody know any other creative ways to search for journalism jobs?

What is a typical job for a recent college graduate who wants to work for a newspaper?
