I'm the editor in chief at a college newspaper using College Publisher 4. We're currently attempting to upgrade to CP5 with hopes in the future to move away from them.

From a CP4 perspective, content management is unwieldy. It's not very intuitive and is very restricting.

I'm not sure what CP5 would be like, but it's only a stopgap until we can get our own Web site up and running with our own ad revenue.

Any thoughts on Word Press? That's been the thinking around the newsroom.

Anyone here from the broadcast side of things, on Web platforms like WorldNow? (Waiting for that user forum they promised, any day now...;-/

I think it's about time to mention CoPress here :)

from little that i have read and understood, both drupal and joomla are more of the less the best open source cms we journalists could use. to be frank, i am struggling to understand the installation part of joomla.. but i will get there! there are hosting sites that use programmes like fatastica etc which will execute the joomla files and upload automatically...

My friend Jonny just got back from D.C., where he spent a week at DrupalCon. He said The Economist and several other big media sites are going Drupal. I use Drupal. I'm of the belief that it's becoming the open source standard.

Iam quite new here so I've not yet had time to browse the whole mail, but from the first mails I read I feel that maybe some of you should try Joomla. Iam using it in all my sites (personal site and two online spaces, for photography and videogames, things I also write about for regular on print magazines and newspapers). Joomla is extremely configurable and easy - well, one you learn the ropes - to use....

I am in the market for a new CMS. My most recent experience was with Drupal, and it had it's good and its bad moments. In my new role, the community building features that make Drupal appealing aren't that important. The organization isn't all that interested in story comments and blogging, for example.

Also, I have started hearing some anti-Drupal rumblings, although nothing specific I could ask about.

Any anti-Drupal sentiment out there? If you weren't interested in open source, what CMS would you use? Some IT opposition to open source here.) In this day and age, would you consider anything but open source?

I'm hoping you can help me. The student newspaper I advise is using College Publisher. The photos on the opening page look awful--blurry. College Publisher keeps giving us advice that doesn't work. The most recent advice was to use 70dpi instead of 72. Can anyone help? Our site is thestylus.net if that helps.

Does anyone have an opinion on what features in a CMS or community content management platform would provide real value to their newspapers? In other words, what features actually help us do our jobs easier, or eliminate the need for support staff positions, etc? My impression is that everyone's going with bolt-ons, like a Brightcove this, a sports solution that.....but that nothing's very integrated.
